ABOUT THE COURSE
This 5 day mid century modern refinishing-restoration workshop at our Cotswoldian HQ is designed to give the student the fundamental basics and in depth professional skills of French polishing, contemporary wood finishes and woodcare. With so many people looking to start new careers, our woodcare courses (based at Blockley workshops in Gloucestershire) are the perfect way to kickstart your journey.
You will take a Mid Century Modern piece of furniture back to its original state, or if a bit more adventurous, redesigning into a contemporary portfolio piece (see my portfolio for inspiration).
Each student will work on one to two portfolio pieces of their choice allowing them to go through the full process within 5 working days. In between refinishing your chosen pieces we will also have numerous sample boards to complete.
THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING:-
- French Polishing & Contemporary wood finishes –
- Health and Safety
- Polishing materials, tools and personal set up list Stripping, neutralising and sanding/wire wool techniques Staining and grain fillers
- Shellacs, touching in and waxes
- Finishes – varnishes, stains, oils, polishes
- Brush, rag and rubber techniques
- Aftercare
- Photography
- Start up business advice
The course is designed for groups of 1 to 4.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
- All power tools/hand tools, abrasives, masking, grain fillers, stains, stain blocking, primers, brushes and wood finishes provided.
- Lunch, top coat paint choice, apron, hand gel, mask and furniture to be provided by the student.
