ABOUT THE COURSE
This 10 Day Professional Furniture Refinishing Workshop is designed to give the student the fundamental basics and in depth professional skills. Each student will work on numerous pieces of furniture of their choice allowing them to go through the full process within 10 working days. In between refinishing your chosen pieces we will also have numerous sample boards to complete.
The course has been created to give the student all of the skill set, knowledge and business acumen ready to start up as a sole trader in contemporary and traditional furniture finishing, french polishing, contemporary paint and clear coat techniques, furniture redesigning and woodcare.
THE 10 DAY PROFESSIONAL FURNITURE REFINISHING WORKSHOP COVERS THE FOLLOWING:-
FRENCH POLISHING & CONTEMPORARY WOOD FINISHES:-
- Health and Safety
- Polishing materials, tools and personal set up list
- Stripping, neutralising and sanding/wire wool techniques
- Staining and grain fillers
- Shellacs, touching in and waxes
- Brush and rubber techniques
- Aftercare
CONTEMPORARY PAINT FINISHING:-
- Health and Safety
- Concept mock up on paper – including colours, design, materials needed
- Materials discussion
- Stripping, neutralising and sanding/woodcare techniques
- Stain blocking, priming, knotting and undercoating
- Painting, rolling and cutting back techniques
- Finishes – waxes, varnishes, stains, oils, polishes
- Hardware discussion (student to bring hardware if needed)
- Staging and photography
- Start up business advice
